Huawei`s AI Era Begins: HarmonyOS 6 Unveiled
Huawei announces HarmonyOS 6 with AI-powered assistant XiaoYi
Huawei officially launched its HarmonyOS 6 today at the Developer Conference, with Executive Director Richard Yu unveiling the next major iteration of Huawei’s in-house OS.
While the new version includes visual and performance improvements, its most innovative feature is the Intelligent Agent Framework, built to create more human-like interaction through the AI assistant XiaoYi.
Unlike traditional voice-command systems, XiaoYi intuitively understands your needs and responds accordingly. It can scan your entire smartphone screen, similar to Google’s Circle to Search, and respond to contextual queries. On stage, Huawei demonstrated XiaoYi integrating with ChatExcel, helping users automate tasks and even assisting in HarmonyOS app development.
Another highlight is the Touch and Share feature. By simply tapping a supported phone to a PC’s screen, users can transfer multiple files or connect to multiplayer games. Although compatible devices weren't detailed, this function is likely limited to Huawei hardware.
The HarmonyOS 6 Developer Beta Program is now open. Developers can register by June 30, after completing verification through Huawei’s Developer Alliance.
Supported devices include:
Huawei Mate 70, 70 Pro, Mate 60, 60 Pro, Mate X5, MatePad Pro 11” (2024), and MatePad Pro 13.2” (2025).
