Short-lived – Apple drops the Camera Control button!

iPhone 17 could be the last with Camera Control button

The iPhone 17 series may be the last generation to feature the Camera Control button. According to new reports, Apple plans to remove the button in the iPhone 18, as it has not gained enough user adoption.

Apple first introduced the Camera Control button with the iPhone 16 series, allowing users to quickly open the camera and access key settings. The button will still be present in the iPhone 17 models, but leaks suggest it will disappear with the iPhone 18 lineup.

No Camera Control button in iPhone 18?

Apple is reportedly making this move for two main reasons:

  1. The button is not widely used by users.
  2. To reduce production costs.

While the button was marketed as a professional shutter alternative, enabling zoom, depth, and exposure adjustments, it failed to attract the same attention as the Action Button introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro models.

If the reports are true, the Camera Control button will be gone in iPhone 18. A similar case happened with 3D Touch, which Apple discontinued after just four generations.
